Whittier College – Science and Learning Center

The existing science building, a four-story structure with a penthouse totaling 90,811 SF, underwent extensive renovation and expansion. The building, reinforced with concrete slabs supported by structural steel beams and columns, was strengthened seismically, had partial exterior wall replacement, and complete replacement of MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing)systems and interior space.

The newly renovated building now includes a rooftop terrace learning deck, a two-story lobby and learning hub, a sculptural staircase within the lobby, teaching and research wet and dry laboratories, lab support spaces, classrooms, and student study spaces.

The facility features Multipurpose Teaching Laboratories accessible to all departments, optimizing their use. These laboratories are divided into three levels – Level I, Level II, and Level III, each equipped with progressively advanced infrastructure such as water supply, gases, ventilation, and electrical power to cater to varying needs.
